About

I hold my breath, and shoot

Born in 1985, I first encountered photography at the age of 14, through a school course that introduced me to one of the last generations of film cameras, just before the great digital revolution.

It was a lucky start: I learned the basics, got to know my first tools and, over time, explored techniques, equipment and everything that surrounds this world.

After finishing school, I bought my first digital SLR, a simple Nikon D3100, which came with me on my travels, through personal experiences and in my free time.

For a long time I couldn’t turn this passion into a real profession, but I never stopped nurturing it. For almost twenty years photography has been a constant presence in my life. Even today, every time I raise the camera to my eye, frame, hold my breath and shoot, I feel the same lightness and calm that have been with me from the very beginning.

For me, photography is not just a way to preserve memories: it is a way to share moments, emotions and feelings.

It is a way to tell what words can’t always describe, and to let others live, even if only through an image, moments they weren’t able to witness.

Chapter two

Photography today

In recent years this passion has also found its place in my professional life. I work in a hospital in Genoa, in the communications area, where I handle visual communication and produce photographic and graphic content.

It is an experience that lets me put photography at the service of communication, documenting activities, events, people and moments of hospital life: a context in which images take on a special value, because they tell the story of the professionals’ work, give people their due and make visible what often stays behind the scenes.

Alongside this, I keep pursuing my personal photography, leaving room for experimentation, travel, nature and the search for new points of view.

The tools

My equipment

Over time I have broadened my photographic vision with new equipment as well. Today I use a Nikon D750 paired with a Sigma 150-500mm telephoto lens, and a Panasonic Lumix S5D with a 50mm, a 28-200mm and another lens suited to my needs. The Lumix has become the camera I use most, both at work and for personal projects.

For aerial shots I use three DJI drones: a Mini 3 Pro, an Avata and a DJI FPV. They let me tell the story of places and landscapes from above, with perspectives and movements that wouldn’t be possible from the ground.

I believe equipment matters, but it is never enough on its own. Behind every photograph there is a way of seeing, a sensitivity and the ability to recognise a moment worth telling.

And that is exactly what, after all these years, still drives me to take pictures.
